Minister for Sport and Recreation, Terry Waldron thanked the Sports Fans User Group yesterday for their enthusiasm and commitment to the new Perth Stadium project.

The Sports Fans User Group, which is made up of 30 representatives from the WA community, reconvened at the new Perth Stadium site for the first of four design development meetings.

During the next seven months the Group will provide feedback directly to the lead architects of the project to further refine the Stadium and Sports Precinct design.

The meetings will cover all elements of the design that a sports fan will experience on both event and non-event days including navigation and movement throughout the Stadium and Sports Precinct, specific details on stadium seating, catering facilities and integration of public transport.

Minister Waldron applauded the design recommendations that the Group made across 2013 assisting in the development of the specifications documentation.

“The continued advice from the Sports Fans User Group members is integral and will ensure a world class experience is provided for all users at the new Perth Stadium.”

“Being representatives of the WA community—the people who will use and enjoy the venue for many years to come—it is critical that the Sports Fans User Group have their input into the final design from facilities across the Precinct right down to the position of the cup holders in seats.”

“Their support and input into this exciting project takes the “fans first” commitment from the planning phase into reality,” Mr Waldron said.

A detailed design briefing held in July highlighted the input that the Sports Fans User Group had in the development of the specifications document with approximately 80 per cent of ideas and suggestions included in the new Perth Stadium design.

Eight other User Groups including all the major sporting codes, Stadium Events and Operations, Emergency Services, Media, and Access and Inclusion will also be re-engaged as part of the design development phase.

Their collective advice will ensure the new Perth Stadium design meets the requirements of all users.
